Money Saving Lesson # 6

~~OR ... Mistake Number 6 ~~

Getting involved in multi-level marketing plans

It happened to me many, many, many times when I was searching for a home-business over 20 years ago.

The “magic” of multi-level marketing sucked me in, with the promise of “automatic income” and “residual profits”

THE STORY is where the MAGIC is: You get a few people … who each get a few people … who each get a few more people. Then if you just get a few dollars from everyone connected to you (in your “downline”) every month, you’ll be rich.

What “they” (the mlm companies) never explain is that 97% of the people who join a network marketing company will never see a profit. (That’s from a survey sponsored by a network marketing training firm.)

Here’s the reason why most people never see a dime in profit from MLM programs:

Only a small handful of all network marketers are experienced network marketers.

These people are known as “heavy hitters.”

Heavy hitters are masters at marketing, prospecting, and building downlines.

Through direct mail campaigns, countless live meeting at local hotels -- pitching the deal and signing up new recruits.

The problem is -- most people are not heavy hitters.

Most people don’t have the time or money to do the type of recruiting that the heavy hitters are doing. They’re lucky if they have the time to pitch their new deal to their “warm market” -- their friends and family.

Now here’s where things fall apart.

Once most people try to sell to their friends and family, they normally stop. They have little or no experience with direct mail … live sales … or hard-core prospecting, so they ultimately stop marketing the opportunity -- and rush off to join the next exciting MLM deal that’s promising “overnight riches”.

Over time, after jumping from one program to another, most of these people join the
N.F.L.

That stands for “No Friends Left”.

And this describes 97% of network marketers.

So even if you are a “heavy hitter” -- and you build a downline of 1,000’s of people -- 97% of your downline will do little or nothing -- before moving on to the next opportunity.

And this continues to happen over and over again.

It’s an endless cycle … where the “heavy hitters” get into a new opportunity first (usually personally invited by the founder of the company) … feed off to the excitement of a “ground floor” opportunity … create big checks they can parade around at conventions -- and in 3 to 6 months, when the buzz dies down, they’re off to the next thing.

Unfortunately, the “magic” of residual income never comes true -- because the people you’re relying on to make you money … the people in your downline … usually stop very quickly -- or “jump ship” and go to the next program that promises faster and easier money.

Most people who join under you in MLM program will do nothing or drop out -- and you’re left wondering what happened.

Here’s some advice that will save you a lot of time … money … and energy:

Avoid network marketing and MLM opportunities -- and focus on building a solid long- term home-business you can be proud to call your own.

SPENDING YOUR WAY INTO DEBT, looking for something that works

This is a BIGGIE.

A few years ago, I talked to a gentleman at a seminar who had been desperately trying to figure out how to make more money, working for himself.

He rattled off one money-making plan he’d purchased after another. He’d spent $500 here and $1,000 there. He was attending one high-priced seminar after another, costing up to $5,000 each and he still had not found something that really worked as promised.

But here’s the scary part, he was deeper in debt and worse off financially when I spoke to him … than he was when he first started looking for a way to make more money.

In fact, he was $90,000 in debt -- and he still buying more opportunities.

However, he was in “crisis mode” -- desperately trying to find something that worked, while trying to keep the credit card company away for just a few more weeks.

I’m sure you know this: He’s not alone.

I see this same story, time and time again.

Good people, who desperately want a real, honest, legitimate way to make more money, drain their bank accounts and put thousand of dollars on their credit cards -- buying every money-making opportunity that promises to make them rich.

The problem is: There are literally 1,000’s of people and companies promising that their opportunity is the best and will make you money.

This really does get my hackles up. I’m pretty easy going … and I rarely get angry … but I do get upset when I see hard-working people, who want to build a better life, getting “taken” for thousands…even tens of thousands of dollars, buying “junk” opportunities.

Just spending money buying money-making programs will NOT make you money, no matter what the gurus say.

The key is to wisely invest your money into ONE home-business that works -- and then continue investing your money in training, education and marketing to build that ONE home business up -- until it’s making you the income you want to make.

If you’re on the roller-coaster of buying one money-making program after another … digging yourself deeper and deeper into debt, here’s a fast cure:

Detox for 30 days.

For 30 days, stop spending money on new money-making opportunities.

Give your credit card a month to cool down.

During that time, start doing some reading and research -- and kook for ONE home-business that suit you.

Find something that gets you excited. Something that you’ll enjoy doing. Something that you’ll feel good about getting up and doing every day. Something you can be passionate about.

Then … once your “30-Day Detox” is over … invest a little money to start the ONE home-business you chose.

And do NOT let anyone confuse you with any new money-making programs that DO NOT apply to your current home-business.

Do the 30-Day Detox and I guarantee you’ll feel better about yourself and the directions that you’re headed in. Plus, after 30 days, you’ll have a great idea for a new home-business.

Becoming overwhelmed by “information overload”

Yesterday, I spoke to a gentleman on the phone who paid for a consultation with me.

During our conversation he said, “There’s just so much information. I’m more lost now than when I first started looking at home businesses. I have no clue where to start!”

He was suffering from the dreaded “information overload” - and he’s not alone.

Most people looking to start a home based-business are overwhelmed by the huge amount of books, courses, training systems, seminars, workshops, and experts that are available.

And, with the increase in people looking for -- and starting -- home-based businesses, this avalanche of information will only get bigger and bigger.

Worst of all, while some of the information you’ll find is accurate, a lot of it is inaccurate…outdated…or just plain false. But, if you’re getting started, you have no idea how to sort out the good information from the bad information.

Believing there is an instant, overnight, “magic” way to make money

You’ve seen the ads and offers:

“Get Rich Overnight”

“Make over $1 Million Dollars a Year -- Without Ever Lifting a Finger!”

“The World’s Fastest, Easiest Way to Become a Millionaire… While Sitting on the Beach, Sipping A Cold Drink!”

The sellers of “get-rich-quick” know what “hot buttons” to push:

Make lots of money, Fast, Easy. Without you doing anything.
Now lets be honest with one another:

If there really was an instant, overnight, magic way to make money, wouldn’t the world’s richest people know about it -- and be using it?

But if you read any biographies of wealthy people, you’ll see the same thing, over and over:

The world’s wealthiest people…simply created a plan…and worked to put it into action.

Often, the wealthiest people worked incredibly hard…60 to 80 hours a week…to bring their businesses to life.

Unfortunately, the con artists hawking these “Make Money, Do Nothing” plans prey on people who are tired of working 60 to 80 hours a week -- and are looking for a way to make more money, doing less work.

So they promise fast, easy money with absolutely no work.

The truth is this: Every legitimate money-making opportunity that has the potential to make you a fulltime income -- will take some time, effort, and yes…even work.

But here’s the really cool thing that you might not have known.

“ Work” does not have to be a bad word.

In fact, most home business owners love what they do.

They jump out of bed, excited to work on their home-based business!

In fact, while many of these excited business owners have set up home businesses that can make them a full-time income working LESS than the job they left…they actually spend the same amount -- or more time -- on their home business.

Why? Because they’ve found something they love to do. Something they’re passionate about.

And they realize that the work they do is benefiting them.

Instead of working to make someone else money, they’re now working to make themselves wealthy.

So they’re happy to put in 20, 30, 40 or more hours per week, because they know the profits are going into their bank account.

And, best of all, because of the work they do put in, they also have the freedom to take off whenever they want. They now have the time to attend their children’s school plays…take friends and family on fun vacations or cruises…or just take an afternoon off
-- or a long weekend -- as they please.

So if someone tells you that their money-making opportunity takes absolutely no work -- but can make you filthy rich, here’s my advice: Grab your wallet and run!
The truth is: Every legitimate money making opportunity takes work on your part.

Here’s the answer: Find something that you love doing. Something your passionate about.
---If you do that one thing…start a home business doing something you love…you’ll automatically be motivated to put in the time and effort it’ll take to start and develop your business.

Do YOU really want to succeed with an online business? I believe YOU do, but before YOU get overwhelmed with all the offers online, YOU need to get some wisdom. People are eager to take your money, but I want to give YOU some Free advice (I wished I would have learned this stuff a few years back). Please don’t make these mistakes while you are looking for ways to make money!

Getting involved in too many “money-making opportunities”

“How many times have you paid good money for a money-making program that promised to make you fast, easy cash … and the next thing you know, your mailbox or email inbox is filled with more opportunities that promise you bigger, faster, and easier cash.


The one thing that will guarantee that you’ll never make any money is jumping from one program to another.

Unfortunately, it can be truly hard to resist some of these new opportunities … when the people selling them are promising that you’ll make huge sums of money in just days or weeks.


I’ve fallen into this trap myself. Over 20 years ago, when I was searching for a home based business, I bought dozens of money-making plans, programs, and opportunities. Everything I could get my hands on.


The result: Mass confusion, and not one extra penny in my pocket.

In fact. Jumping from one opportunity to the next put me deeper and deeper into credit card debt!


Since then, I’ve discover that the key to really making a full-time income working for yourself is finding one solid opportunity … and focusing 100% of your time and attention on it, until you succeed.

I want that --- to really --- sink into your brain. Your key to making money working for yourself is: FOCUS

Find one opportunity … stick to it … and you’ll finally start to generate income -- while 99% of others searching for a way to make extra money continue to jump endlessly from one opportunity to the next, and never get anywhere.”

Why Do YOU Give?

Have you ever been to a birthday party? At some time during the party, all gather around the birthday cake and sing: “Happy birthday to You, Happy birthday to You, Happy birthday dear Sally, Happy birthday to You!”

Then at the end, the candles are blown out. What a time everyone has celebrating the coming of another year for that special someone. Everyone usually has a great time, especially… when the presents are opened. Most everyone brings presents or gifts for an occasion such as this. Have YOU ever asked yourself, “Why?”

One answer you might come to is, ‘I hope I fill a need.’ Another might be, ’I want to see the look on the persons face when the present is opened.’ Another might also be, ‘It’s something we are supposed to do or we just don’t go.‘ All of these are, probably, correct but one answer that often circulates in the back of our minds is this, ‘I hope, in some way, this is an investment for the future.’ If you think about this, you know I’m right.

Have you ever been invited to a wedding? Most likely you have, at least, once or twice. Ah… weddings are fun. Especially, when you need to travel some distance to a wedding. If this is the case, you need to book a motel room, secure vacation time and make sure the pets are cared for, (I’m not talking about your kids, either, bring them with!) before the wedding. When the wedding day approaches, hopefully, all your plans come together, flawlessly.

Your flawless plans should include, showing up to the wedding on time (very important). If you don't all your plans will be wasted. Not to mention if you are part of the wedding, some people will be mad at you.

Ah, the moment everyone has waited for, seeing the bride and groom tie the knot (placing bets with friends and family, on how long they stay together should be done, preferably, before the wedding). Songs and music are heard leading up to, “Want um, want um, got um …” Then you think, “There were only four mistakes, not a bad ceremony, what a day!”

What is the value of an idea?

--What is the value of an idea? If you could put a price on one, what would it be?
Let me help you think. Years ago, someone thought, could I create a horseless carriage, talk long distance through a wire or how about fly as high as the birds? All of these started with an idea.
I want to introduce to you a creative friend of mine who has incredible ideas that makes him lots of money online. Before I tell you his name, I want to give you a condensed version of one of his success stories:
---The Shining Diamond---

"... one killer idea that can pay for their ticket to attend the event... the flight to and from... their hotel room... all meals... the rental car... and then have some left over to buy a new house. THAT kind of an idea. And it didn't take long to search my brain cells to find that one killer idea. Want to know what it is? (Duh!)

After I tell you, you'll see why I can't sleep. Every time I start thinking about it, my brain overloads with 100 new ways to make money. Here it is... The Diamond: A $2 Million+ Idea. The best way to explain the idea is to show it to you in action.

A few years ago, I was looking for the "next big thing" in my business that would make me a pile of money. I had my eye on a new car... an Acura MDX (with the cool talking navigation system)... and I wanted to see if I could make enough money to finally buy it.

I remember going through my "marketing mail" (what others mistakenly call "junk mail") one day, when I found a letter from a company selling turn-key websites. Now, this wasn't the first sales letter I'd gotten from them. I'd been getting these "Get Rich with Turn-Key Website" sales letters for about 6 to 9 months - so I knew they must be banking in a big way. I'd almost set this letter aside, just like I did every time it arrived in the mail... But something made me stop. And think.

"What if", I thought, "I could sell something to all of these new turn-key website owners?" My brain cells started to dance a little. "Hmmm. What do new website owners need desperately?" The brain cells started to shimmy and shake.
---I'VE GOT IT! ADVERTISING!---
I quickly got onto Google and typed in "advertising"... then "Internet advertising"... and a few more keywords. I was looking for an advertising service I could sell to new website owners. After a short search, I found one company offering a 1-year Internet advertising service for $1,000. I emailed them - and asked them what their wholesale price was for this service. Their answer?

They didn't HAVE a wholesale price, because they only sold it through their own in-house reps. But I persisted - and told them I thought I could sell a TON of their Internet advertising. I finally got an email back! They would take JUST $100 for every $1,000 sale I made! ("After all," they said. "If we don't have to do any of the work to get the sale, you can keep 90% of the profits.") BAM! I had a valuable service to promote (Internet advertising)!

Next, I sent a letter to the company selling turn-key Internet websites. I explained that I could offer ALL of their new website buyers 30 days of FREE Internet Advertising. I told them that if they added this as a BONUS to their sales letter, they would convert more prospects into buyers - because new website owners NEED Internet advertising. I was SHOCKED by their fast reply. They said... YES!

Within just about a week after that, they added a paragraph to their sales letter offering 30 days of FREE Internet Advertising to all new website buyers. AND (here's the SUPER COOL PART)... they emailed me the names and addresses of ALL of their new website buyers every single month. FREE.

Every month, I'd get an excel file of 250... 500... sometimes as many as 1,000 names of turnkey website BUYERS! I quickly found out that this company was BANKING - and getting rich selling websites hand-over-fist!

Now, you might wonder what in the heck I was doing with all of these names. After all, I'd promised them a FREE 30-Day Trial of the Internet Advertising. And that cost me roughly $20 per customer.

Here's what I did ... Once I got the buyer names by email, I sent them 2 things.
--Item 1. I sent them a 1-page certificate good for 30 days of FREE Internet Advertising. All they had to do was fill out the form, return it to me by fax or mail, and I'd have to pay $20 bucks to give them their free bonus. BUT - with that certificate, I also sent...
--Item 2. A full sales letter making a HOT offer for the 12 FULL MONTHS of Internet advertising. I explained how 30 days of advertising was okay... but if they really wanted to promote their new website, it made a lot more sense to advertise for a full year.
"And," I said, "If you take the full year of advertising, I'll still give you the additional 30 days - free, so you get 13 months of advertising for the price of 12."

Did it work? Did people take the full year of advertising and fill my bank account with $1,000 sales? Or did everyone just send in their "Free 30-Day Certificates" and bankrupt me? Curious? Okay, okay. Here's what happened: Almost EVERYONE who responded took me up on the 12 months of Internet advertising for $1,000!

Very few people only sent back in the "Free 30-Day Certificate" Every day, the fax machine would crank out more and more orders for $1,000 each.
